Condominium Directors are required to complete, as a minimum requirement, a basic on-line course through the Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO).  Many directors find that this course leaves many questions unanswered and there is no opportunity to ask the questions you have.  

CCI Huronia is presenting the Intensive Condominium Director's Course on April 22 and 23, 2023, which will provide a more in-depth learning experience with a focus on the practical aspects of being a director.  We will be covering topics in greater detail in order to assist you to meet your legal duties and responsibilities.   A variety of experts in condominium law, management, engineering, insurance and finance will explain and provide practical tips on the various aspects of condominium governance and management.    With our case studies, we will be sharing real life examples of issues directors are facing, which will leave you with lessons learned and practical tips.    To complete our comprehensive learning experience, there will be plenty of opportunities to ask our experts the questions you want answers to and to network with other directors.  Reference materials are provided as part of the course in pdf. format.    

In addition, new this year is the launch of the CCI  Director Certificate Program which is a new initiative by the Canadian Condominium Institute. The CCI Director Certificate program includes eight Ontario-wide fundamental courses. Upon completion of all courses, a director will be awarded a CCI Condominium Director Certificate. This certificate will demonstrate your commitment to your corporation and your willingness to go above the minimum standards required by the Condominium Authority of Ontario.  In addition, it will mean your community can rest assured that you understand all aspects of condominium governance and best practices and have the skills you need to oversee the corporation as a director.

At our 2023 Intensive Director’s Course, CCI Huronia will be  including 2 qualifying courses as part of our intensive program.  On Saturday we will be completing the 101 Governance Fundamentals Course.  By the end of this course, you will be able to understand the basics of condominium governance. You will also understand the roles of directors and property managers.  Understanding the legal requirements for condominium governance is important in order to run your condominium smoothly. The relationship between the corporation’s rules, by-laws, declaration, and the Condominium Act must be clearly understood to ensure that decisions being made by the board are legal, consistent, and fair. This course will introduce you to everything you need to know about governance fundamentals and how they impact your condo. It will also introduce you to other legislation that impacts condominiums. Understanding the differences and the importance is necessary in knowing how to run your condominium smoothly. That’s why it’s essential to learn about what the rules and regulations are before making any decisions.

On Sunday we will be completing the 108 Repair, Maintenance and Change Fundamentals course.    By the end of the course, you will be able to understand the differences and importance between “maintain”, “repair” and “repair after damage” as stated by the Act.  You will also understand if the responsibility for maintenance lies with the unit owner or the condominium corporation, since the responsibility can vary from condominium to condominium, depending on their declaration. 

As a special promotion and to recognize the launch of this new program, CCI Huronia is including the cost of these two courses in the cost of our 2-day Intensive Director’s Course.  By joining us on April 22 and 23rd you will have completed 2 of the 8 required courses and will be two steps  closer to earning your CCI Condominium Director Certificate.
