Proposed Permanent Changes to the Condominium Act, 1998

The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (the ministry) would like to invite you to participate in a written consultation on draft proposed amendments to facilitate virtual processes under the Condominium Act, 1998.

As you know, the Legislature passed the COVID-19 Response and Reforms to Modernize Ontario Act, 2020 which, among other things, made temporary legislative amendments to the Condominium Act, 1998 related to virtual meetings and the deferral of annual meetings in some circumstances in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since that time, regulations were made to extend the expiry date of temporary legislative amendments related to virtual meetings. The temporary relief framework is currently set to expire on September 30, 2022.

The ministry previously held public consultations regarding potential permanent changes or further temporary changes to the Condominium Act, 1998 in relation to virtual processes. These changes would help condominiums adapt to new ways of doing business that are more virtual and allow for broader participation.

The ministry is now seeking input on the draft proposed permanent amendments that would enhance virtual processes under the Condominium Act, 1998. We welcome your feedback and value any input you may have on the draft proposed amendments. Please visit the Ontario Regulatory Registry to view the draft proposed amendments and provide your input
here.

We encourage you to provide any comments that you may have by 11:59 pm on January 21, 2022.

We look forward to your participation in this consultation.
